Whispering Pines Nudist Resort—March 2009

Whispering Pines Nudist Resort
"Old and Familiar Renewed"

March 2009

Along the beautiful coastline of Ocean Isle Beach, NC, lies nestled in a grove of Loblolly Pines a quaint yet friendly and accommodating nudist resort. Located just 10 miles from the South Carolina border and just a short drive to the excitement of Myrtle Beach, it provides the best of both worlds. The quiet solitude of a natural environment awaits guests as they arrive. It is a resort that is familiar to many for several years as Whispering Pines Nudist Resort. For some of you, it might have been named Apollo, with nothing more than a pond and a grassy knoll for sunbathing.

The pond is still a delightful place to sit and watch the pair of ducks as they meander around searching for food. They are also very friendly and, if you have a snack for them, they are very happy to visit your RV. They have been observed entering an RV to retrieve a snack of bread crumbs that was left behind. Then again, that probably is not the best thing to do because, if you are familiar with the beautiful creatures, they have a habit of making a deposit wherever they choose. However, it is a fantastic sight to see.

As you meander your way around the pond, you will see the beginnings of a fish pond where you will see the delightful fish with the orange, golden color of a spectacular sunset. As nudists, don’t we always enjoy anything to do with the sun?

Once again, the opportunities abound in this area. Just a short drive away, is Sunset Beach, NC, named so because it faces east and West on that particular stretch of the coastline. A stroll down Sunset Beach will take you to Bird Island. Bird Island is a sanctuary with magnificent wildlife where you can see the bottle nose dolphins dancing on the waves on one side and the snowy egrets on the other. There is a mailbox on Bird Island called the Kindred Spirit. There you will find notebooks and pens in which you may write your thoughts or whatever takes your fancy.

As you drive back to the Resort, you will be greeted by the new owners of Whispering Pines. In December of 2008, John and Jill Frick purchased Whispering Pines and the many renovations are impressive which were completed in only a few short months. The clubhouse has been renovated with central heat and air, along with new equipment for your entertainment. The bathhouse is in the process of being renovated, and new outdoor showers will soon be installed. A new office has been established, and it is much more efficient. The website has been updated and is very professionally maintained. All information about the Resort, reservations, and activities are included.

A DJ provides great entertainment on Saturday nights, with any genre. Remember, you are in the locale of the Shag, so get ready to learn some new steps. If you like to line dance that is always a favorite. Whatever your choice in music, just ask and you will probably be rewarded with your particular favorite. The themed activities are always a huge success, and the participation is phenomenal. A favorite was the “Walking of the Plank” at the "Pirates of the Caribbean" weekend. What a surprise for those that were marked with the “Black Spot of Death”. The screams of terror could be heard in South Carolina. What fun when the blindfolds were removed!

Taking a trip to Whispering Pines, might just be the prelude to many more as you relax by the pool, play ladder golf, horseshoes, or simply grab a float and soak your buns.
