Cape Cod 13th Annual 2009 Beach Clean-up

Cape Cod Beach Clean-up

Cape Cod 13th Annual 2009 Beach Clean-up

Join Us on the Cape Cod Seashore—June 13th

For twelve years volunteers have gathered from throughout New England and beyond for this annual Beach Clean-up. We hope to see you there this year. The event is open to nudist, naturist and all their families and friends who wish to help. The clean-up takes place each year in early summer as a special way to get miles of the National Seashore ready for its many visitors and their families to enjoy.

There are more than 475 volunteers from the Massachusetts Bay area, who have given their time over the years to make beaches on the Cape Cod National Seashore cleaner and safer. It is our hope that you can join us this year in recognizing these committed individuals as they gather again to clean over six miles of Herring Cove and Race Point Beaches by volunteering with them.

For many, their story actually goes back to 1975. That's when a federal regulation was invoked banning a long tradition of skinny-dipping and au naturel sunbathing on the seashore. While the regulation remains unchanged to this day, what started as a small group has grown to hundreds who make the clean-up an annual event. What's more, it has come to be recognized (and honored) by the U.S. Dept of Interior as part of their Take Pride In America program.

National Seashore staffers have repeatedly expressed their belief that there is room for a clothing-optional zone on the 40+ miles of shore. However, their hands are tied by a regulation dating to the mid-1970s. We think that regulation at least deserves a second look and appreciate any assistance you can lend us in making that happen.

This year we're extending a special invitation to Federal, State and local officials to join us during this project. This Cape Cod invitation is being extended to all on behalf of the Cape Cod Beach volunteers comprising of the American Association for Nude Recreation, the American Association for Nude Recreation—Eastern Region, the Sunchasers Travel Club, and all who love the Cape Cod beaches.

We are expecting an above average turnout this year and want to be sure to have enough food and beverages on hand for all who will attend.

To recognize the many volunteers, a "THANK YOU BARBECUE" is planned after the clean-up.

Therefore, we respectfully request that you RSVP to :
