Northern Exposure Sun Club—November 2008Nudists Don't Hibernate in the Winter—Northern Exposure Sun ClubMany people view nudists as sunbathers—the American Association for Nude Recreation used to be known as the American Sunbathing Association. They assume that those of us who live up north have only two choices: go south for the winter or go into hiding until spring once our local resorts and camps close for the season in October. Nudists don't hibernate in the winter! Many of us who spend as much time as possible at our landed Clubs during the summer also belong to non-landed Clubs which sponsor events during cold weather. A wide variety of indoor events are possible. Take, for example, the Northern Exposure Sun Club (NESC), a non-landed Club in the Albany, NY area. During the summer, we like to hold at least one event such as a picnic or barbeque at each of our area landed Clubs (Berkshire Vista Nudist Resort, Juniper Woods Clothing Optional Nudist Recreational Park & Campground, and the Full Tan Sun Club). In the fall, a group of our members make the short road trip to Massachusetts to join the members of Sunchasers Travel Club at their annual Nude Bowling and Buffet. We have held potluck dinners / DJ dances, charging only a small "uncover charge" to pay for the rental of the hall. Nude swims are a great way to help nudists get through winter. NESC rents a small, but very warm pool for a series of swims once or twice a month from October through April. We enjoy soaking in the warm water as well as light refreshments including chips, dips, veggies, something from the dessert category, and soda. Another popular activity is a winter getaway at a bed and breakfast. Bare Inn The Woods B&B is run by a nudist couple a relatively short drive from Albany, which we have visited several times. Socialization, good food, hot tub—that's what it's all about. If you're a northern BARE, don't hibernate this winter. Check out your area non-landed Club to see what activities they have scheduled!
