Avalon Takes to the Stage—March - April 2008

Avalon Resort and Community in Paw Paw, WV celebrated Women’s History Month in a most unique way. This year marked the second time that Avalon women have portrayed famous, or infamous, women in history through “living scenes” or otherwise known as ‘Tableau Vivant’. This year, the audience was entertained by such notable women as Marilyn Monroe, Lady Bird Johnson, Mae West, Anne Sullivan, Helen Keller, and Isadora Duncan. After the intermission, the audience, then the stage was graced by Greta Garbo, the infamous Lizzie Borden, Georgia O’Keefe, Belle Boyd, and Rachael Carson.

Prizes were given for the table(s) that could correctly guess 8 of the 10 identities. No group guessed them all. Regardless, of winning or not, both the players and audience had a great time acknowledging well known American women.

The “Not Quite Ready for Clothes Yet Players” entertained guests in April with a murder mystery. Vikings gathered at their “Circle” to determine who had murdered their beloved King Harald and stolen his sword. It was very evident that nudists—with or without clothing—can really enjoy themselves! The players took to their roles with aplomb and bombast was the rule of the days. Think about the zany fun to be had and make plans to be part of the action the next time the “Not Quite Ready for Clothes Yet Players” takes to the stage.
