Non-landed Clubs have fun too!
by Jim Phillips
What on earth can a non-landed Club full of naturists in New England do in the winter? They can de-stress by soaking in swirling, soothing, therapeutic jets of heated water. There is actually no better time of year for dozens of naturists to gather around a hot tub and pool for an afternoon swim-and-soak.
Maine Coast Solar Bares (MCSB) is just such a Club. The Club, registered with the Maine Secretary of State, was founded in 1988. Today, the MCSB boasts 80 households on its membership list. Their “welcome any body” membership policy attracts members from all over New England as far away as Connecticut, Vermont, and other outlying New England States. Some members drive 3 hours to the monthly swim meetings. Age is no barrier to participation; the youngest naturists are age 3 or younger and the oldest I met was age 84. Although monthly swims include many couples, singles are always welcome. Single folks comprise a large part of the membership.
President Chris B. explained that the Club meets the first Sunday of each month from November to April at a resort in Ogunquit, Maine. From noon till 5pm, the pool and hot tub are clothing-optional. At a typical meeting, you’ll find more than 50 happy nudists literally up to their ears in hot water. The presence of children who make afternoons a “high-energy frolic” is especially enjoyed by all. The odd wet ball or occasional splash doesn’t seem to bother the adults seated around the pool engaged in conversation. There is real diversity in age, education, professional status, race, and many other demographics. When we’re naked, we’re all as God made us.
Club members provide a wide spread of breads, desserts, and all the condiments a hungry swimmer could want. To make the buffet complete, Club members wash the sandwiches down with a variety of soft drinks, juice, bottled water, and coffee.
After April, members arrange cook-outs at private homes, travel to Cedar Waters Village (Nottingham, NH) and Berkshire Vista Nudist Resort (Hancock, MA), conduct occasional nude bowling parties, and participate in AANR Regional meetings. Visitors are always welcome. Nudity around the pool is expected but not required. Admission is $15 for members/guests and $25 for opposite-gender couples. MCSB is friendly on a first-name basis. If you live in New England, plan a first-Sunday-of-the-month trip to beautiful Ogunquit. Take Exit 7 off the Maine Turnpike, turn north on Highway 1, and your clothes can be doffed just 7 miles away!
