Komen Race for the Cure

Washington D.C. Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure
by Susan Weaver—AANR-East President

Race, walk or saunter, but save Saturday, June 7, 2008 for one of the most exciting experiences of your life!

The morning of June 7th, men, women, children and even pets gather at the Washington Monument to begin a 3-mile run or walk to raise money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Runners leave first, but the majority of people walk at their own pace, wearing the Komen Race for the Cure t-shirts. Many wear signs that show they walk in memory of loved ones who did not live long enough to see the tremendous advances that have been made in breast cancer detection, treatment and cure. Others wear signs in honor of survivors.

It is a powerful experience, with positive energy absolutely crackling in the air, and enthusiastic support for this important cause. The Komen Race for the Cure program is the world's largest grassroots network of survivors and activists fighting to cure breast cancer at every stage and the largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

Susan Weaver, recently diagnosed with breast cancer but coming back strongly after a lumpectomy, is heading up the organization of a team this year. The name of the team is Celebrate Life.

Visit National Race for the Cure to register to join this team and walk with us on June 7th, or to provide a contribution. Follow the instructions to register to join the team: LFE Celebrate Life.
