MORAVIA, NY—From July 13th - 19th, Empire Haven in Moravia, NY opened their gates to AANR-East officials and all interested members for their annual Convention and Festival which coincided with their 50th anniversary. If you weren’t there for the week chock full of important briefings, decisions involving your AANR-East dollars, and fun activities, you clearly missed a great experience.

AANR-East conducts a great deal of their work between meetings and in committees in order to get the greatest involvement from the maximum number of members. During the past year, the Board has conducted electronic votes to clarify term limits, provide a grant for training to the club with the greatest membership increase, expanded options for host clubs bidding on a convention, and extended the date for nominations for public relations awards. As a result, there was only one piece of legislation brought to the 2009 Convention; this was a clarification of the Internal Administration investigation procedure, as described on the AANR-East website. For more information on the business of the Association, please log into the Members’ Lounge.

A busy program of activities offered alternatives to the business meetings. Luau dance lessons were taught in preparation for Saturday night’s luau and sarong tying lessons were given by Miss Vicki. Astronomy enthusiasts set up a telescope and campfire socials with snacks were a regular evening favorite. Throughout the day, Al Robinson conducted park history tours on his “Cadillac stretch golf cart.”

Empire Haven will definitely be remembered for its delicious and generous helpings of food. An all-you-can-eat clambake finished off the Festival with shrimp, scallops, calamari, crabs, steamers, veggie burgers, potatoes, salads, home-baked cakes, and brownies.

Many talented and sports enthusiasts won trophies for some of the following hotly-contested tournaments, contests, and games: sand volleyball, pickleball, basketball, pétanque, monkey bar golf, darts, horseshoes, water balloon toss, hula-hoop, bingo, poker and blackjack gambling with fake “Barely Money” currency, karaoke, and a treasure chest hunt.

A spirited Solair contingent of 19 participated in Festival activities with Empire Haven warmly challenging Solair to return next year to their Olympics so that Empire Haven could win back some of the trophies awarded to Solair.

Outgoing President Susan Weaver handed over her gavel to incoming President (and Juniper Woods owner) Jim Lane. Outgoing Director Tim Thomsen replaces Jim Lane as Vice President. Congratulations to both incoming officers who were respectively elected by the delegates to the AANR-East Regional Assembly.

You can also become better acquainted with your Board members, including the new newly-elected directors Sue Butts and Eddie Whitlock in the Members’ Lounge section of this website. There is also more detailed information about awards presented to individuals who have made special contributions to nude recreation and AANR-East.

Grateful thanks to Michele Keagle and the host of Empire Haven members who took their vacation week to provide the Association with an outstanding week of fun.

AANR-East hopes to see many more people at the 2010 AANR-East Convention at Sunny Rest Resort June 20th-24th. Interested parties are also welcome to the 2010 Interim Board Meeting on January 15th-17th at White Tail Resort in Ivor, Virginia where many items will be discussed that affects both you and your Club.

Meanwhile, click on the Become A Volunteer thumbnail image on the left at www.aanr-east.com to read more about how you can get involved. Grass-roots volunteering and special products are fulfilling opportunities to become active in our Association, participating in committee meetings, then “graduating” to heads of committee teams.
