Oaklake Trails Nudist Resort—September 2009 (AANR Convention)Oaklake Trails Naturist Resort I’ve been attending AANR conventions since 1995 and each has presented fun activities and opportunities to interact with old and new friends. But future convention hosts will have to really stretch to surpass the 2009 AANR Convention at Oaklake Trails Naturist Resort in Depew, Oklahoma. The week offered a broad range of fun, informative, unique experiences in an outstandingly beautiful environment. For the rest of my life I will remember the poignantly glorious sunsets from the plateau, and the Native American music and dance provided by Choctaw Michael Loman. During the week, Creek Mary also shared with us many of her Native American traditions and crafts. A group of Civil War re-enactors offered a variety of workshops throughout the week—educating us on authentic regalia, flags, encampments, and military engagements—culminating in a mounted “battle” between North and South. They were experts in their field, and made the Civil War experience as it occurred in Oklahoma very real and fascinating to us all. There was also a week of fun and games, topped with a real old-fashioned carnival where officials more used to Parliamentary motions showed their skill at eye-and-hand coordination motions as they pitched or rolled balls, tossed hoops, and won fun prizes. Meanwhile a real old-fashioned cakewalk gave others the chance to take home just one more taste of the spectacularly delicious food we were served all week. Naturally, the business of the Association went on throughout the week, and provided an opportunity for AANR members to become better informed about the hard work carried out by their elected officials throughout the year. Government initiatives regarding public lands, public relations related to the AANR World Record Skinny-Dip, the work of the AANR Education Foundation, personal support to members with legal issues, diversity of membership, all and more were explored by interested individuals during the meetings. Even Oklahoma weather cooperated, obligingly dropping from triple-digit temperatures to a comfortable warm temperature that made the pool a refreshing location during breaks between meetings. I am deeply grateful to the members of Oaklake Trails for the wonderful week they gave us, and strongly recommend this club for the extra level of warmth and friendliness they bring to the nudist experience.
