Profiles—Gloria Waryas—April 2009
Gloria Waryas, now a Board Member with AANR-East, first got started with nude recreation by her cousin and husband. As most initial visits go, she was nervous, but eventually wondered why (as all of us do) “why haven’t I done this before, this is wonderful?”
As time went on, she ran across writings that more efficiently express her desire to be nude. Here is Gloria's perspective on being a nudist and what it means to her:
"I am a Nudist"
Not for my body, but for my soul.
Not to please others, but to make me whole.
Not because I am a perfect "10", but for me,
To enjoy life naturally, I live to be free.
I am a Nudist
To accept myself for who I am,
To heighten my awareness of the likeness within.
Without any desire to be Queen of the Ball,
But to appreciate beauty; spring, summer or fall
I am a Nudist
Not to be sexy with lace frills and folds,
I'll leave that to others who wish to wear clothes.
Those are inhibitions for one to overcome,
For the outward appearance is necessary for some.
As for me, I am a Nudist.
Gloria hopes to increase our membership—not for the sole purpose of numbers for numbers sake, but to educate the community and most importantly, demand our right to be nude. If we don’t take a stand on this issue now, there might not be an opportunity to do so later. She also feels that our dues and any monetary gifts we give sustain her vision (and the Club’s vision) for nude recreation.
She also enjoys many activities nude (swimming, ladder golf, and dancing), but just meeting new people, conversing, and the camaraderie are the highest on her list. She challenges academia to come up with a class or degree that provides as much information and knowledge as the spectrum of diversity in nude recreation.
Activities other than nudism in which Gloria participates include tending her garden and sewing (creating things without a pattern are particularly appealing because it entices her creativity to flow). Also, as a dyslexic, Gloria finds a challenge around every corner, but manages to succeed.
