News from the President—Marketing Symposium

In my professional career, I have participated in many workshops and forums, however, it would be hard to match the one last weekend at Mira Vista Resort in Tucson, Arizona.

This Marketing Symposium was arranged by AANR Brand Management Chair, Pat Brown. As AANR Public Relations Chair, I participated, along with AANR President John Kinman. The real stars of the event, however, were the five marketing specialists who volunteered their time, knowledge and expertise to build a marketing plan for AANR.

These individuals brought to the table a combined total of over 100 years of professional marketing experience as well as their commitment to nude recreation as AANR members. While our Association has long profited from the professional expertise of government affairs, public relations and business professionals, this is the first time a corps of marketing experts were brought together with the specific mandate, "Build us a marketing plan".

The discussions were challenging, stimulating, and even a little painful as we all worked to shed preconceived images and identify AANR’s value proposition, role in society, role in nudism, and products. Every waking moment, including meals, was used to explore the Association knowledge and experience of those of us long-involved in AANR, and share it with the professionals who know how to frame a plan based on sound business principles and marketing experience.

Although AANR is sometimes associated in peoples’ minds with “big business” because we charter the clubs affiliated with the Association, AANR is, in fact, a democratically run, not-for-profit advocacy organization, expressing the collective power of its membership to positively influence the understanding and acceptance of social nudism by the public and government agencies. Although there is a staff at the headquarters in Kissimmee, the policies and budget are set by volunteer officers and trustees selected by you, the members of AANR.

Everyone participating in the symposium, including the professional facilitator Mr. B., paid their own way and all expenses involved in the event. AANR is fortunate to inspire this type of loyalty and dedication among its members. Every year at this time, I try to look at my life and experiences and express my thanks for all the hard work and support of those around me sharing our dedication to nude recreation.

This year I feel the most enormous gratitude for those who brought about this symposium and the successful results I feel certain will come about as a result of it.
